Lorex RTSP URL Format

Use the following RTSP URL format to connect your Lorex camera to SmartCam Alerts.

# Main stream (high quality)
rtsp://username:password@IP:554/cam/realmonitor?channel=1&subtype=0
# Sub stream (lower bandwidth)
rtsp://username:password@IP:554/cam/realmonitor?channel=1&subtype=1

Replace username and password with your Lorex credentials, and IP with the camera or NVR’s local IP address. The channel=1 parameter selects the camera (use channel=2, channel=3, etc. for additional cameras on an NVR). Lorex is a Dahua subsidiary, so the URL format is identical to Dahua. subtype=0 is the main stream; subtype=1 is the lower-bandwidth sub stream.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about using Lorex cameras with SmartCam Alerts.

How do I find my Lorex camera or NVR IP address?
Open the Lorex Home app or the Lorex Cloud client on your computer. The camera’s IP address is shown under Device Settings > Network. You can also check your router’s connected devices list, or use a network scanner like Fing on iOS/Android.
What are the default credentials for Lorex cameras?
For most modern Lorex models, the default username is "admin" and you set a custom password during initial setup. There is no factory default password on newer firmware — if you cannot remember yours, you may need to reset the camera with the physical reset button.
Do I need to enable RTSP on my Lorex camera?
RTSP is enabled by default on Lorex IP cameras and NVRs. If you have trouble connecting, log into the camera’s web interface and verify RTSP is enabled under Setup > Network > Connection. The default port is 554.
Does SmartCam Alerts work with Lorex NVR systems?
Yes. Connect directly to the NVR’s IP address and use channel=1, channel=2, etc. in the RTSP URL to select each camera. Each camera channel needs its own connection in the SmartCam Bridge if you want per-camera alert rules.
Will this work with Lorex Fusion or Lorex Smart Series cameras?
Yes, as long as the camera supports RTSP streaming (most wired Lorex models do). Battery-powered WiFi cameras may have limited RTSP support since they sleep between motion events.
Can I connect multiple Lorex cameras?
Yes. The free tier supports one camera, Pro supports up to 5 cameras, and Business supports unlimited cameras. Each camera or NVR channel uses its own RTSP URL in the Bridge.
