Hikvision RTSP URL Format

Use the following RTSP URL format to connect your Hikvision camera to SmartCam Alerts.

Replace username and password with your Hikvision camera credentials, and IP with the camera's local IP address. Hikvision uses a three-digit channel/stream code: the first two digits are the channel number, the last digit is the stream type (1 = main, 2 = sub).

How do I find my Hikvision camera's IP address?

Use the SADP Tool (Search Active Devices Protocol) from Hikvision's website to scan your local network and find all Hikvision devices. You can also check your router's DHCP client list or use the Hik-Connect app to view network settings.

What are the default credentials for Hikvision cameras?

The default username is "admin". Newer Hikvision cameras (firmware 5.3.0+) require you to set a password during activation, so there is no universal default password. If you have an older camera, the legacy default password was "12345", but this has been removed on all current firmware versions for security reasons.

What does the channel number mean in the RTSP URL?

The three-digit code at the end of the Hikvision RTSP URL represents the channel and stream. For example, "101" means channel 1, main stream. "102" means channel 1, sub stream. "201" means channel 2, main stream. For standalone cameras, always use channel 1. For NVRs, the channel corresponds to the camera input number.

Does SmartCam Alerts work with Hikvision NVRs?

Yes. You can connect to individual camera channels on a Hikvision NVR using the RTSP URL format with the appropriate channel number. For example, channel 3 on the NVR would use /Streaming/Channels/301 for the main stream.

Do I need to disable Hikvision's built-in motion detection?

No. SmartCam Alerts runs independently of Hikvision's built-in motion detection. You can keep Hikvision's native alerts active while also using SmartCam for AI-powered detection. SmartCam analyzes the video stream using AI vision models, which can identify specific objects and scenarios that basic motion detection cannot.
