Foscam RTSP URL Format

Use the following RTSP URL format to connect your Foscam camera to SmartCam Alerts.

# Main stream (high quality)
rtsp://username:password@IP:88/videoMain
# Sub stream (lower bandwidth)
rtsp://username:password@IP:88/videoSub

Replace username and password with your Foscam credentials, and IP with the camera’s local IP address. Foscam uses port 88 by default for RTSP (not 554), though this can be changed in the camera’s web interface. Use videoMain for the high-quality stream or videoSub for a lower-bandwidth substream.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about using Foscam cameras with SmartCam Alerts.

How do I find my Foscam camera’s IP address?
Open the Foscam app or visit the camera’s web interface via the Foscam Search Tool (downloaded from foscam.com/downloads). Once logged in, navigate to Settings > Network > IP Configuration to view the camera’s IP address. You can also check your router’s DHCP client list.
What are the default credentials for Foscam cameras?
On older Foscam firmware, the default username and password were both "admin". Newer Foscam cameras require you to create a custom username and password during initial setup — there is no factory default. If you forget your credentials, reset the camera using the physical reset button.
Do I need to enable RTSP on my Foscam camera?
RTSP is enabled by default on most modern Foscam cameras. To verify, log into the camera’s web interface and check Settings > Network > Port. The RTSP port should be set to 88 (or another port you choose). Some older or budget Foscam models may not support RTSP at all — check your model’s specifications.
Why is the Foscam RTSP port 88 and not 554?
Foscam historically used port 88 as the default for both web interface and RTSP, while most other manufacturers use 554. You can change this in the camera’s web settings under Network > Port if you prefer. Your RTSP URL will need to match whatever port you select.
Can I use this with Foscam cloud-only cameras?
No. Some entry-level Foscam cameras are cloud-only and do not expose RTSP streams. Look for Foscam models advertised as supporting RTSP, ONVIF, or NVR compatibility — these are the ones SmartCam Alerts can use.
Can I connect multiple Foscam cameras?
Yes. The free tier supports one camera, Pro supports up to 5 cameras, and Business supports unlimited cameras. Each camera needs its own RTSP URL entered in the SmartCam Bridge.
