Dahua RTSP URL Format

Use the following RTSP URL format to connect your Dahua camera to SmartCam Alerts.

Replace username and password with your Dahua camera credentials, and IP with the camera's local IP address. Dahua and Amcrest cameras share the same RTSP URL format (Amcrest is a Dahua OEM). The channel parameter selects the camera channel, and subtype selects main (0) or sub (1) stream.

How do I find my Dahua camera's IP address?

Use the Dahua ConfigTool utility (available from Dahua's support site) to scan your network for all Dahua devices. You can also check your router's connected devices list, or use the DMSS mobile app and navigate to the device's network settings.

What are the default credentials for Dahua cameras?

The default username is "admin". Current Dahua firmware requires you to set a password during initial device activation, so there is no universal default. On older firmware versions, the default password was "admin", but this has been removed for security. If you have forgotten your password, a hardware reset may be required.

Is the Dahua RTSP format the same as Amcrest?

Yes. Amcrest cameras are manufactured by Dahua (OEM), so they use the same RTSP URL format: rtsp://username:password@IP:554/cam/realmonitor?channel=1&subtype=0. If you have both Dahua and Amcrest cameras, the same URL structure works for both brands.

Does SmartCam Alerts work with Dahua NVRs and DVRs?

Yes. You can connect to individual camera channels on a Dahua NVR or DVR by changing the channel parameter in the RTSP URL. For example, channel=3 would connect to the third camera connected to the recorder. Use the NVR's IP address as the host.

Do I need to enable RTSP on my Dahua camera?

RTSP is enabled by default on Dahua IP cameras. To verify, log into the camera's web interface, navigate to Setup > Network > TCP/IP, and check that the RTSP port (default 554) is active. If you have changed the default port, use that port number in the RTSP URL instead of 554.

Can I connect multiple Dahua cameras?

Yes. The free tier supports one camera. The Pro plan supports up to 5 cameras, and the Business plan supports unlimited cameras. Each camera needs its own RTSP URL entered in the SmartCam Bridge.
