Amcrest RTSP URL Format

Use the following RTSP URL format to connect your Amcrest camera to SmartCam Alerts.

# Main stream (high quality)
rtsp://username:password@IP:554/cam/realmonitor?channel=1&subtype=0
# Sub stream (lower bandwidth)
rtsp://username:password@IP:554/cam/realmonitor?channel=1&subtype=1

Replace username and password with your Amcrest camera credentials, and IP with the camera's local IP address. The default port is 554. Use subtype=1 for a lower-resolution stream that uses less bandwidth.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about using Amcrest cameras with SmartCam Alerts.

How do I find my Amcrest camera's IP address?
You can find your Amcrest camera's IP address using the Amcrest IP Config Tool (available from amcrest.com/downloads), or by checking your router's connected devices list. You can also access the camera via the Amcrest Smart Home app and view the network settings.
What are the default login credentials for Amcrest cameras?
The default username for Amcrest cameras is "admin". The password is whatever you set during initial setup. If you have not changed it, try your original setup password. Amcrest cameras require you to set a password during first-time setup, so there is no universal default password.
Should I use the main stream or sub stream?
For SmartCam Alerts, the sub stream (subtype=1) is usually sufficient and uses less bandwidth. The AI analysis works well with lower resolutions. Use the main stream (subtype=0) if you need higher-quality alert snapshots or have plenty of available bandwidth.
Do I need to enable RTSP on my Amcrest camera?
RTSP is enabled by default on most Amcrest IP cameras. If you are having trouble connecting, log into the camera's web interface, go to Setup > Network > TCP/IP, and verify that the RTSP port (default 554) is active. You may also want to check that the camera firmware is up to date.
Does this work with Amcrest Cloud?
SmartCam Alerts connects directly to your camera over your local network via RTSP. It does not require or interact with Amcrest Cloud. Your camera stream stays on your network -- SmartCam Bridge captures frames locally and sends only snapshots to the AI for analysis.
Can I connect multiple Amcrest cameras?
Yes. The free tier supports one camera. The Pro plan supports up to 5 cameras, and the Business plan supports unlimited cameras. Each camera needs its own RTSP URL entered in the SmartCam Bridge.
